A 2D ultrasound provides flat, black-and-white images that show internal structures, commonly used in routine medical exams. A 3D ultrasound creates a three-dimensional image of your baby, giving depth and clarity to features like the face and body. A 4D ultrasound adds movement to 3D images, showing real-time actions, such as yawning, stretching, or sucking a thumb.
For the clearest 3D/4D images, we recommend scheduling between 27 and 32 weeks. Around this time, babies tend to have more defined features, and there's still enough amniotic fluid for clear imaging. If you're aiming for those chubby cheeks, closer to 30 weeks is ideal, but it may vary depending on your baby's development.
Yes, 3D/ 4D ultrasounds use the same safe, low-level ultrasound technology as regular 2D ultrasounds. We follow recommended guidelines to ensure both you and your baby have a safe and enjoyable experience.
